The very word “ religion”comes from the Latin “ religionem”, meaning “respect for what is sacred”, “reverence for the gods” and/ or “ conduct indicating a belief in a divine power.” Many of the meanings we now associate with this word, did not come into use until the 11th century, with an expansion in the formation of monastic communities… “Politics” originally comes from the Greek “ politicos” meaning “ of, for or relating to citizens. ( Just think of the expression “ hoi polloi”, which means “ the people” i.e. in Greek terms:citizens).
